Three Deaths: If it’s Superstition, Why Does it Keep Happening?

What do you think about the superstition that death comes in threes?

For decades, I’ve noticed the trend. It goes like this.

It includes someone famous I’ve seen or heard or read, someone known by someone I know, and someone in my circle of life.

Such as, an actor, an in-law’s friend, and a cousin’s uncle.

Those are pretty distant.

At this writing, Feb. 17, I dare to reveal that four actors that I liked have just passed.

  1. The woman from “Home Alone,” Mrs. Ohare, who yelled, “Kevin!” when she realized he’d been left behind.
  2. Jesse Jackson.
  3. Only age 48, the actor from Dawson’s Creek.
  4. The actor from Apocalypse Now.

Is this morbid or what to wonder if the cycle will repeat itself and with whom?

Last cycle was my cousin, an actor and a friend.

The cycle in May was my husband’s cousin, a singer or someone like that, and someone we knew. I haven’t kept records, per se, but I have noticed the circle getting smaller and smaller.

My cousin, sweet dear, was only 58. We were stunned. It happened pretty fast.

I have four beloved family members who are 87 and older. My Godmother is 93. We have many relatives in their 70’s. We have ill, elderly friends.

I’m like, feeling in suspense, if you will, and feeling quiet, and hoping it’s going to be a circle of three actors that have already made the news, and that’s it.

What about me? Am I ready? Have I made my peace with God? Is my paperwork in order?

I have this notebook with all my accounts and memberships and things. Sticky notes have created a file. It’s such a mess right now. That is a goal to rewrite that.

And what about any personal things in my drawers. Would my husband remember to hide them from my sisters? Dying is a given, but it’s been said that Americans seem afraid to talk about it. Gosh, the Queen, Queen Elizabeth, was the planner of her grand departure ceremony. A funeral is the last thing you get to have a say so on in your life, so, maybe plan it!

I’ll let you know what happens.

Are we just copies and imitators of everything we observe, learn about, etc.? Wanting to be an "original" has been my desire all my life. I was one of 10 children. I had to be different to be noticed, right? As life went on, I found out life intrinsically has boundaries a human, if they want the best results for human existence, is to stay within the created boundaries, to be humble enough to accept they are created and not the creator of all there is. My profile? I like to write, photograph, cook, eat, enjoy nature, experience, laugh, love, look, learn, and sometimes even lose because when you lose, you learn something, such as, how to win next time. I love the shoreline, the mountain trail, the biking trail, the road and the not-so-well beaten path. I hope you read my stuff because a lot of it I learned the hard way, due to stubbornness, pride, rebellion, plain youth or ignorance or misguidedness. I'd like to save you the trouble by sharing what I've learned. Funny thing is, as we go through life, sometimes we have to go through something in order to see that what we thought was okay to do isn't, and ya have to wonder what we don't know yet!
